I don’t know how many time happens to everyone, but it is quite common to us: start with great moonless night, take a lot of light frames in RGB thinking to have time for Ha<\/p>\n

… “c’mon there are three more weeks”<\/p>\n

… and then the three weeks “disappear” in clouds, family woes, flu and so on, leaving you with equal integration time in HA and RGB, while the former should be two or three times the latter.<\/p>\n

This is the story of this photo, nevertheless, it is a beautiful shoot and I’m happy of the result<\/p>\n

it is not my first attempt on Elephant Trunk, but my previous was a complete failure in spite of shooting from a quite dark sky. But this time I was armed with a modded camera and an HA filter and they made the difference.<\/p>\n

How I mixed RGB and HA data:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Post processing has been done using Startools separately on the two stacks: RGB and Ha<\/li>\n
  2. RGB has been heavily denoised because details will come from HA<\/li>\n
  3. Then I used HA image as luminance and composed an LRGB pictures, details are on Startools User Notes page<\/a>, see “Combining Luminance and RGB images using the Layer module”<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
